This guidance brings together sources of information about the main risks children may be particularly vulnerable to during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and signposts you to help and support available.
Positive Approaches to Support
The Challenging Behaviour Foundation, the Tizard Centre, family carers and various other professionals and organisations have worked on the Positive Approaches to Support website (www.positiveapproachestosupport.co.uk) . This is a collection of resources to support families in supporting their child at home. The ideas are particularly aimed at families who have a young person who has behaviours that challenging.
The resources are set out in sections: looking after yourself (resources for carers), firm foundations (things about how to give your child a good day, increase communication and predictability and encourage skill development), responding to challenges (how to respond when things become difficult), and transitioning back (going back to e.g. school after COVID).
The NHS have YouTube videos on “Supporting Neurodiverse Children in Challenging Times (such as During Self-Isolation)” available in the following languages.

Hillingdon Educational Psychology Service
Hillingdon Educational Psychology Service is providing a helpline for any parent or carer of children, who feels they would benefit from a consultation with a psychologist to support them with any concerns arising at this time, for them or their families. You might want to discuss anxiety, children’s emotional needs, daily structure, bereavement, how to best look after yourself etc.

Hedgewood has partnered with Hillingdon Food Bank to provide food vouchers for families in crisis. These vouchers provide short term and emergency food to families in the borough who are going through exceptionally difficult times. If you have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are struggling to pay for food, Hillingdon Food Bank can help to provide 3 days of emergency food and toiletries.
