Family Services
Emotional, practical and social support for families
Meet the Team:
Ayo Akinnola – Family Services Manager
Judy Carter – Family Services Worker
Our Family Services team have developed an extensive support network to provide links between home, school and other services. We support our parents and carers with understanding, guidance and strategies to improve the quality of life for their children and for their family as a whole. Our Family Services team have a wealth of information to guide parents to available support networks within the community. We provide a network of assistance and advice for parents and carers, and a varied programme of activities including coffee afternoons and extended school clubs. As Mental Health First Aiders, we are available as a point of contact for anyone who is experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress. This interaction could range from having an initial conversation with us through to supporting you to get appropriate help.
Our aim:
- To support families and promote the well-being of our pupils by extending their experiences outside of the classroom.
- Effective networking for families to share experiences and provide mutual support.
- Provision of a range of parent training courses.
- Promote well-being and resilience through individualised support and guidance for parents/carers.
- Facilitate community cohesion.
Parent / Carer Coffee Afternoons:
Our Coffee Afternoons provide regular opportunities for parents/carers of Hedgewood pupils to meet with each other in a relaxed and informal environment to share information and advice and learn from the experiences of others.
“Throughout the pandemic, the Family Services Team have been integral in supporting parents ensuring that they were not isolated or felt overwhelmed with the expectations of home schooling. Family services went above and beyond to provide resources to families to ensure that they were able to access home learning successfully Family services provide training to all parents on approaches used within school in addition to the NAS parents training courses available. Staff work closely together to empower families to provide successful support for their person within the home. Resources are regularly provided to homes with photos and videos of how to use them effectively that parents are able to go back to.” NAS advanced accredited report July 2021
